Hello Charlie, can you introduce yourself in a few words? (Studies, professional experiences…)
Hello, I started my studies with an IUT in Materials Science and Engineering, then continued along the same path with an IUP in Mechanics and Materials, so my studies focused on mechanical design. I then joined ESTIA for a parallel admission engineering course, and obtained a dual degree in General Engineering, as well as an MSc in Computational & Software Techniques in Engineering delivered by Cranfield University in England (Cranfield being renowned for its expertise in aeronautics).
Upon completing this program, I undertook my final internship at Turboméca in Tarnos, now Safran Helicopter Engines (SHE), in 2003 as part of their Business Process Engineering project for the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) entity. I then continued to work there to finalise the BPR project's results and prepare the implementation of SAP for this entity. A project which, incidentally, was led by the future founder of 2MoRO, Bruno Bouf!
This BPR project allowed SHE to rethink its business processes from a broader perspective, notably by incorporating a much more significant role for information systems.
Following this, 2MoRO was established in 2004 under the leadership of Bruno Bouf. I am among the first employees to have joined this venture.
At that time, I became an AMOA consultant on the SAP implementation project for SHE's MRO segment. During this period (2004-2010), 2MoRO was succeeding, particularly with the development and sale of Aero One®. SHE was looking to replace its fleet management tool with a more industrial one, to manage Customer/Field Rep-Tech/Engineer relationships. During this period, between consulting assignments, I occasionally worked on the functional aspects of Aero One® to assist the teams in formalizing and structuring the product. This project was a real success because it marked the first time SHE globally deployed an information system, enabling hundreds of employees from all subsidiaries (Europe, South Africa, US, Canada, Japan, Uruguay, Brazil, Australia, Japan, etc.) to collaborate using the same tool and process.
In 2011, following a restructuring of 2MoRO, the Consulting division was sold to a German company specializing in the supply chain, named J&M. Consequently, I left 2MoRO to join this new company and took part in the SAP deployment project for the Belgian entity of Sabena Technics, a contract previously won by 2MoRO. Two years later, J&M was acquired by Ernst & Young. At that time, I was engaged in a change management service for SHE. Not being drawn to E&Y, I decided to leave that entity.
Later, I was contacted by 2MoRO Solutions to strengthen the Aero One® team. At that time, Aero One® was on a roll, with several international projects taking shape.
The Peruvian Airlines project had been won the previous year, as well as a deployment project for Airbus Helicopters Malaysia. Additionally, a pre-sale engagement with a Colombian freight transport operator (Las Cargo) was about to be concluded. It was for this Colombian project that I rejoined 2MoRO within the Aero One® team, marking the beginning of my involvement in this project, which has been my guiding thread until recently. During this period, I wore various hats, including Aero One® product expert and functional manager for its integration with our customers, technical sales representative, and trainer, among others.
Continuing our expansion with Aero One®, we secured contracts with Weststar Aviation in Malaysia, Aviasur in Chile, and Airbus Helicopters in Chile and Saudi Arabia, enabling us to put Aero One® into production for several types of aeronautical customers (MRO Centers, Helicopter or Aircraft Operators).
Our latest significant project on Aero One® was with MHIAEL in Japan. MHIAEL is an entity of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industry group dedicated to the aircraft engine maintenance (P&W, Trent, etc.). During this period, in addition to our cultural visits (see the first photo), we successfully accomplished the first multi-product design by 2MoRO, integrating Aero-Webb® V7 for technical data management, Aero One® for organization, monitoring, and execution of maintenance, and a mobile application for carrying out maintenance tasks (eJobcard).
The temporary halt of the MHIAEL project due to economic and strategic reasons from our client, coupled with our decision to focus our activities on Aero-Webb®, led me to increasingly invest myself in Aero-Webb® until becoming an integral part of the Support and Maintenance team for Aero-Webb®.
To sum up, my experience within 2MoRO shows the variety and complexity of the aeronautical projects we deal with.
Our products, especially Aero-Webb®, serve as the backbone of our clients' information systems. As such, they must facilitate the management and tracking of technical elements (Engines/Turbines, Landing Gear, APU, Aircraft, Helicopters) within complex management and usage contexts (Engine/Parts MRO Center, Aircraft/Helicopter MRO Center, Aircraft/Helicopter Operators, civil/military, Franco-French, international, etc.). It's these challenges that have enriched and motivated me throughout this time.
What is your role at 2MoRO, and what do your missions consist of?
My involvement has evolved since I started at 2MoRO, as explained in my career path, where I contributed to the development of the Aero One® product, particularly on major international projects in Chile, Saudi Arabia, and Japan.
I am now a Business Analyst in the Support & Maintenance team of Aero-Webb®, where challenges are numerous, new, and exciting.
What do you prefer about your job?
Aeronautics!
Initially, I hadn't considered this path, especially in IT, being more oriented towards design and mechanics. I was more inclined to use CATIA or Windchill rather than SAP. My immersion in this field happened almost by chance. When I started my career in 2003 and 2004, IT was still largely underdeveloped in the sector. Professionals preferred working with paper-based systems, considering mechanics as the core of the business.
However, my first end-of-studies project focused on business process reengineering allowed me to delve into the challenges and issues related to managing a high-tech company specializing in the design, production, and maintenance of their turbines. The SAP project, which followed the BPR project, proved to be fascinating due to its scale and allowed me to fully immerse myself in the world of information systems.
What do you think are the qualities necessary to succeed in your missions?
When it comes to design, it's important to be open, imaginative, and flexible. Understanding the needs and objectives of the people/entities you are working for is necessary. Afterward, you can try to translate them into your tools and implement solutions.
In terms of implementation/testing, rigor and pragmatism within the defined scope are essential. You have to be methodical and know how to reproduce the steps precisely to be effective in solving problems. Conversely, being too open-minded might hinder rather than accelerate progress.
However, for me, maintaining an open mind is still essential for adaptation, understanding, and success.
If you had to recommend 2MoRO to a potential candidate, what would you say?
Well, it's the place to be! I believe that today, with the integration of 2MoRO within Sopra Steria, there are many opportunities for development in other areas.
Within 2MoRO itself, the Edition entity is in full development, opening up new perspectives compared to when I first joined. The company's structure is constantly growing, creating opportunities with increasingly significant competence centers. I find that this is more pronounced than at the start of the company; today, opportunities are more specialized and better defined.
Another difference from the beginning is that we have less direct contact with clients since that aspect is managed by the integration teams of Sopra Steria Group. It's essential to keep in mind that possibilities for growth and specialization are, of course, available within 2MoRO, as well as in other branches of Sopra Steria.
